Invitation to join in the Ownership & Adventures of the M/V GREY GOOSE
+ A way of life you don't find anywhere else except on private yachts
+ It’s not everyday you get to experience life from your own yacht
+ Weeks of boating adventures to hidden locations that landlubbers don't even know they exist
+ Dreams do come true – fish Alaska from your own yacht, drift boat and kayak for years to come... share the adventure with friends & family!
Background and operating concepts follow:
1. I've been a U.S. Coast Guard licensed Master for over 25 years. Here is a link to my CV. |
2. I have extensive marine experience along the west coast of North America. |
3. I would like to share my love of boating and the great outdoors with you. |
4. I am selling up to 50% interest in the Motor Vessel GREY GOOSE. |
5. In return I am a skilled vessel captain offering to share adventure voyages with other owners, friends and family. |
6. The voyages schedule is re-organized each year for you, the owners. Want more or less voyages in Alaska or on the Columbia River just ask. |
7. Owners book voyage(s) to enjoy with other like minded owners, friends and family. Book the entire vessel voyage or just a berth on a particular voyage – yes it is possible to organize specific fishing trips or family reunions etc. |
8. Owners are responsible for the direct variable voyage expenses. There is a proforma example on pages 18-19 of the PDF document. |
9. Voyage activities and sample voyages are listed below for your review. Its your yacht so offer suggestions. I'm happy to work with you to achieve your interested voyages. |
10. Fixed annual expenses are shared by all owners on a pro-rata basis. There is a proforma example on pages 18-19 of the PDF document. |
11. I'd be happy to answer your questions and provide additional information – please email me at: master (at) greygooseadventures (dot) com |
12. The vessel has a total of 8 berths maximum; 4 forward, 2 salon and 2 aft. (Remember the captain requires one berth. Hence, 6 additional adult berths are the recommended maximum to plan.) |
NOTE: THIS IS A MARKETING TEST TO MEASURE THE LEVEL OF INTEREST IN THIS PROJECT. PLEASE REPLY WITH SUGGESTIONS TO MAKE IT EVEN BETTER. WITHOUT YOUR REPLY, THIS PROJECT MAY BE CANCELED FOR LACK OF ADEQUATE PARTICIPANTS. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE IT GO AHEAD, PLEASE LET ME KNOW.
THIS MARKETING TEST ENDS ON DECEMBER 21, 2015.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR COMMENTS!

Voyage: 160710
Route: Juneau to Petersburg to Sitka
Days: 10
Berths: Owner, friends & family = 6 plus captain = 7 total
A. To book the Voyage you must be one of the yacht owners.
1% ownership x $550,000.00 yacht = $5,500.00 per 1% share
I am offering financing @ WSJ Prime Rate +2% = ~5.25% as an example
48 months = $127.00/month
60 months = $104.00/month* (used below)
72 months = $89.00/month
84 months = $78.00/month
96 months = $70.00/month
108 months = $64.00/month
B. The owner(s) is responsible for the variable Voyage expenses:
Marine diesel fuel: 3 gallons per hour making 7 knots on economy cruise
FYI 2015 $/gal: CA $2.91, OR $2.48, WA $2.23, AK $2.91 Ref: (1)
Oil: oil & filters are changed ever 200 hours ($1/meter-hour)
Equipment maintenance & overhaul reserve ($2.5/meter-hour)

Proforma Calculation Example:
1. Ownership payments: $104/month x 12 months = $1,248.00/yr.
2. Share of fixed expenses: $12,000 / 50 owners = $240.00/yr.
3. 10 day Alaska Voyage 160710 expenses:
Fuels:
Main engine diesel: 400nm / 7kts x 3gph x $2.91/gal = $498.85
Genset diesel: 40 hrs x 1gph x $2.91/gal = $116.40
Outboard gas: 6 gals x $3.25/gal = $19.50

Where would you like to enjoy the great outdoors next time? Its your yacht!
Questions? Please email me: master (at) greygooseadventures (dot) com |
Thank you for taking a look!![]() Alaska yacht cruises... so here goes...
(Best read on a smartphone by turning sideways to landscape)
SO what part of $485.83 per person for a 10 day Alaskan cruise between Juneau - Petersburg - Sitka would you not enjoy? Longer cruises are proposed... 21 day Inside Passage between Astoria and Juneau... or 14 days on the Columbia River between Astoria and Kennewick... its your yacht and cruises can be customized to fit your expectations and budget. The Columbia River cruises will be spectacular... so little is publicly promoted about the beautiful Columbia Gorge and scenic waterway - the best kept secret around. Just to make it clear - see the proposed "In-port" cruises above which means the vessel is in port at the dock to provide me time to re-provision, change the oil, air filters, service this and that... this is down-time to stay aboard the GREY GOOSE like a B&B and savor the lifestyle... this is something pretty special - you meet other liveaboard boaters, can day-trip around to see the sights and have your own yacht to come home to each night - a very economical deal! Back to the proposed 10 day Alaskan cruise.
You could bring five of your friends and family each paying $583 and your share is paid - you are the owner and organize the cruise. Think of it as owning a COSTCO membership and you as the vessel owner have to be there for cruising time.
The only obligation is to own 1% of the vessel and pay your share of annual expenses which are forecast to be $240 per year ($20/month). You can book cruises as you like - I suggest one every other year at a minimum making it a simple matter to organize and plan. Want two cruises a year - yabetcha! Want to share a cruise with just owners, i.e. for sport fishing Situk River - no problem, just let me know that you want to do it and I'll add it to a tentative list for the owners to select for scheduling... you might need to be a bit of a cheerleader but like minds think alike... fishermen are a good example.
Even if you finance the ownership for $104/month plus the fixed expenses for $20/month the total is only $124/month and you own a share worth $5,500 that can be sold for fair market value - I want the right of first refusal to ensure no one is dumping their share - it makes good business to buy back assets when offered for less than their fair market value.
Another idea is to organize a family travel club and share the expenses, i.e. four adults... each committing to pay 25% of the expenses then it would be only $31/month per person - can't imagine anything more economical... and the 10 day Alaska cruise with four persons would be $729 each or only $73/day each.
For a 10 day private yacht Alaskan cruise!
Here are some of the going Alaska rates for yachts cruises:
$1,300/night x 10 days = $13,000 / 4 persons =
$3,250 each or $325 each per day
$4,500/person for 7 days = $642 each per day
$37,720 for 6 persons for 7 days = $898 each per day
Here are many other yacht cruises to consider - http://expeditionbroker.com/type-of-trips/charter-yacht-trip/
Bottom line - you own interest in a yacht (this is an asset you can sell) - the costs are very economical and your cruise is customized for you - be it fishing, wildlife, birds, whales or bears viewing or just time to unwind and chill enjoying Mother Nature's spectacular outdoor garden - come alone, bring your significant other or bring a boat load of friends or family - its up to you how you want to enjoy and control expenses.
If you like to travel, see wildlife, explore and "get away" from it all... once you experience a yacht cruise you will be looking forward to your next adventure - you can book as many cruises as you like... bring your grandchildren and join me - your grandchildren will be glad you did! So what are you waiting for? A hook, line & sinker? Please take a minute and e-mail me with your comments. What do you like? What concerns you? Suggestions please. Thank you! Doug

more questions are welcome...
I have been asked if there will be partying allowed?
I must read between the lines a bit to answer your question since I think it goes without saying that people cruise to relax and get away from the stresses of working... be it down-time for reflection, fishing, kayaking, hiking, socializing with friends and family... but if you are asking if anything illegal will be allowed the answer is a definite NO!
You should be warned that USCG or other law enforcement officers could board the vessel at any time and may conduct a random inspection and search with the assistance of a trained canine. It would be a shame to be taken off the vessel, miss the cruise and be prosecuted.
You have been warned - take notice!
But if you are looking for a big yacht party scene - look no further - checkout: http://www.theyachtweek.com/
Another question came in...
Can children come with parents? Absolutely!
Just make sure your cruise is for the entire vessel - i.e. a family/friends cruise and not a shared cruise with other owner adults who would not enjoy children "noise".
I have small lifejackets but suggest you bring one that fits your child since they grow so fast - a good fit is important.
After children become tired from kayaking with parents in our Nucanes... some ideas for arts & crafts on GREY GOOSE... https://youtu.be/vwMH9eJGTcU and

Not to mention hikes, exploring tide pools and watching a nap-time kids videos... the adventures go on and on for children.
Question - WHAT IS THE BEST SPORT FISHING IN S.E. ALASKA?
I'd suggest you look at Steamboat Bay Fishing Club:
http://www.steamboatbay.com/about
http://www.steamboatbay.com/reservations
About $1,924 per person per night... with all the bells and whistles...
http://www.waterfallresort.com/
http://www.waterfallresort.com/rates
About $1,472 per person per night... all inclusive...
OR from your own 55' yacht, with a Willie 16' aluminum drift boat and four Nucanoe kayaks for a week with five of your best friends or family members... (about $400 each or ~$67/night)
The choice seems simple to me.
Question - IS THE GREY GOOSE A YACHT OR A WORK BOAT?
I think its both a yacht and a work boat because its a personal marine vessel so I would call it a yacht but it does not have the fancy wood interiors like many super yachts and because its more utility in function I'd call it a work boat because I use it for tasks like fishing, kayaking, cruising - maybe not work in the true sense like commercial fishing but definitely used in a particular task like recreational boating.
Look here for another 2002 55' steel long range trawler motor vessels:

Another question. WHAT IS THE BEST LUGGAGE FOR TRAVEL TO AND FROM THE VESSEL?
I recommend a duffle bag with back-pack straps because it is easy to stow. Hard suitcases are always in the way and do not stow well except outside in the sun - ouch!

BTW: Don't forget to bring a medium size or smaller ice-chest to take your fish home. (heavy load is not a good thing - definitely smaller than 48 quart is best)

Question: DO YOU KNOW OF ANOTHER FRACTIONAL YACHT EXPEDITION PROJECT? PLEASE PROVIDE DETAILS.
Yes. Offshore Odysseys, aka S/V DISCOVERY
Offshore Odysseys is a worldwide adventure business that launched in 1999. In the ensuing seven years we sailed over 45,000 miles across the South Pacific and Asia providing high impact, remote sailing, surfing and kitesurfing charters. In 2004 we hosted Raphael Salles and the F.One kitesurfing team in Fiji, which culminated in a feature length Stance film and provided the inspiration to create The Best Odyssey.
The vessel: http://www.offshoreodysseys.com/yachtshare/vessel.php
The Dream
Looks something like this: As "Discovery and Discovery II" sail around the world you fly in to meet up with the vessel of your choice. There you are sailing through crystal blue seas with a group of great friends, exploring remote tropical islands and discovering pristine anchorages. The day begins with a lazy cup of coffee while you focus on the perfect waves you have all to yourself, yet again. The first decision of the day is what board to ride. After an epic early surf session it's time to think about breakfast, maybe a quick freedive to get the blood pumping. Maybe it's the adrenaline, or the espresso, or a combination of both; but the conversation is animated and smiles abound. Slowly the glass outside picks up small wrinkles as the morning breeze strokes the surface of the water. Like clockwork our private bay is slowly transformed into a festival of action and color as first one kite and then another is launched into the sky...
The Nightmare
The yacht you wanted and the one you could afford meant a few compromises. She's not exactly luxury, a bit rough around the edges, but hey, she's yours! It's not really big enough for all your friends and their gear but that's okay, a small crew is better anyway. With the demands of your job, family and other responsibilities it's difficult to get the time to go sailing but if you stay close to home you might get out most weekends and then there's holidays. So sailing off to the South Pacific is unrealistic, but there's probably lots of undiscovered places right where you live! So it's not tropical where you live. You can stay warm in just about any weather, and don't get me started on the benefits of layering! Besides, the sun does irreparable damage to your skin anyway. Your friends really seem to enjoy those early surfs but someone has to stay onboard and get breakfast going.
It really is surprising how much maintenance boats require. More to fit into those weekends and holidays. But you love your little yacht and enjoy working on her.
The Reality
People who have owned a yacht know this- without unlimited time and very deep pockets sailing beyond the home marina can rarely be realized. Today it is becoming more and more difficult to justify sole ownership of a yacht when you compare the cost to actual use. A more economical but equally limiting alternative is to charter a boat- in places where hundreds of others can do the same, on boats that can't compare to the luxury and itinerary of The Cabrinha Quest.
Make the Dream a Reality
Offshore Odysseys handles ALL of the substantial risks involved in such an endeavor, eliminating the risk and maximizing the rewards for each individual. The owners of the Best Odyssey (2006-2011) consistently told us they were thrilled to own a yacht many times over what can be offered by a charter company; with an experienced, proven professional crew and gourmet chef which operates in a new remote paradise year after year. But with The Cabrinha Quest the model is even better. We've learned a few things after 13 straight years of operating ocean-based expeditions and the model for The Cabrinha Quest is the perfect solution. We are selling Memberships instead of ownership shares. All of the rewards, none of the risks.
Offshore Odysseys is not a charter company. The Cabrinha Quest and our next expedition (TBD) is being offered to serious explorers who are willing to participate in a world sailing expedition to places very few people will ever see. We'll sail to wild places, kitesurf where no one has, spearfish and freedive pristine coral gardens, surf breaks Kelly Slater hasn't even found. But we won't cater to stiff upper lips and won't baby whiners. Take a look at all we have to offer and if what you find is exactly what you've been looking for, contact us. Or if you've already made your decision, apply to join! Memberships are sold out in the Cabrinha Quest, but we are accepting applications for our next expedition on board the vessel Discovery II which launches in the fall of 2014. What to bring (good tips) - http://www.offshoreodysseys.com/schedule/what_to_bring.php
Offshore Odysseys aka Cabrinha Quest in a nutshell:
Membership for two (2) persons: $19,500
Annual dues: $6,380
Food per person per day: $45 each
Calc: 10 day expedition for you and your significant other each year $6,380 plus $45 per person x 2 persons x 10 days = $900.00 = $7,280 or $3,640 each or $364.00 per person per day. Great value for a cabin with two berths on a shared yacht expedition.
GREY GOOSE ADVENTURES (December 15, 2015 marketing test ends)
1% ownership $5,500.00 (Does memberships seems like a better option to consider?)
Annual shared expenses $240 (calling it 'dues' works also)
Calc: 10 day Alaska cruise; Juneau - Petersburg - Sitka $2,915.00 for the entire vessel sleeping the owner and 5 family/friends and the vessel captain. Only $485.83 each. or $48.58 per person per day. Fantastic value for the entire yacht with six berths on a private yacht expedition.
A decision seems easy! Come join us!
BTW - A sailboat expedition called Arctic Sail Expeditions - currently in the South Pacific is looking for share-a-ride ocean passage guests asking ~US$77/day + fuel share - for further info I recommend a browser with a translate widget from Italian to English like Google Chrome - checkout http://www.nordovestitalia.org/

And some prefer to charter a yacht... to make it private?
http://www.sailingtoday.co.uk/content/be-inspired-with-your-free-charter-guide-2016
Again I think the GREY GOOSE ADVENTURES decision is a better choice for friends & family voyages along the westcoast of North America - especially from homeport at Astoria Oregon on the Columbia River and the Inside Passage to and around S.E. Alaska.
Especially if you are a fisherman interested in fishing Alaska salmon & halibut or are looking for private yacht cruises with five other friends and family members.
Worldwide adventures... to each his own... the M/V GREY GOOSE is able to cruise the world if that is what the owners desire. Change your mind... change the voyage and schedule every year to meet your wishes. "PERFECT".
Question: How are medical emergencies handled?
The primary responder on GREY GOOSE is the captain who has wilderness first aid (WFA) and CPR/AED training. He will make a decision on how to best provide you with medical assistance. He may contact the closest Coast Guard by using the vessel's radios or a satellite communicator and provide the coast guard doctor with vital information. If the doctor recommends medication we have some emergency meds onboard. If the doctor recommends waiting until arrival at the next port of call or an immediate evacuation. Evacuation arrangements can be made via private carrier using Geos Alliance or government assistance using the Coast Guard since they know where appropriate medical assets are located.
In the greater Pacific Northwest there are float planes who can respond and land on the water next to the vessel. See: http://www.yachtworld.com/boat-content/2015/08/float-planes-northwest-cruising/

more questions are welcome...

Look here for another 2002 55' steel long range trawler motor vessels:
http://www.yachtworld.com/boats/Power/Trawler

Another question. WHAT IS THE BEST LUGGAGE FOR TRAVEL TO AND FROM THE VESSEL?
I recommend a duffle bag with back-pack straps because it is easy to stow. Hard suitcases are always in the way and do not stow well except outside in the sun - ouch!

BTW: Don't forget to bring a medium size or smaller ice-chest to take your fish home. (heavy load is not a good thing - definitely smaller than 48 quart is best)

Bring the one-gallon Ziplock freezer bags and avoid the expense or out-of-stock disappointment in Alaska.

We subscribe all persons aboard to a search & rescue and medical evacuation service - it is very cost effect with $50K of coverage for only $17.95 per year/person and $24.95 per person/year for the optional $100K coverage. BTW: How much does a family Disneyland trip cost?
The Wiltses’ seven-day stay ended on Thanksgiving. They estimated their cost as $6,052 — $1,210 a person.
The Carpenters reported their total cost at $5,200, or $1,300 a person.
The LaCours spent $7,250 — $1,450 a person during their stay that ended the day before Thanksgiving.
